Ravindranath Perera is a Partner at Varners and has over 37 years of experience in the legal sphere, both in Sri Lanka and other jurisdictions. He was called to the Bar as an Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka in 1982.
Over the years, Ravi has been retained by clients to advise on litigation relating to intellectual property, corporate and commercial matters, whilst also being involved in broader matters relating to the commercial transactions. He further advises and assists clients in relation to alternative dispute resolution procedures, including arbitration and mediation.
In Sri Lanka, he has had the opportunity to be involved with several governmental agencies, including those in the field of media. Ravi has also advised and assisted large mining corporations, international banks, financial institutions, multinational companies, non-state sector entities, and other foreign agencies.
Other Relevant Experience
Ravi counts numerous years of experience in the government sector that stands him in good stead in transacting negotiations with state sector institutions for his clients. He finds the experience gained from working in various jurisdictions invaluable, and the exposure to an array of governmental and private sector organisations on an international scale have given him a wider perspective that he utilises in his approach to advising his clients.
Ravi worked at the Attorney General's Department of Sri Lanka as a State Counsel and later went on to serve the Office of the Attorney-General of Fiji. After a distinguished career in Fiji, he joined the Ombudsman Commission of Papua New Guinea in a primarily investigative and advisory role and has also worked closely with both governmental and non-governmental organisations including those in the private sector of that country
He also serves on the boards of numerous private sector companies and is an avid writer, whose columns and feature articles receive regular coverage in the local English language newspapers.
