Malarmathy Tharmaratnam is a Partner at Varners, with significant experience across the corporate and banking sectors. Her principal areas of practice include real estate and conveyancing, testamentary matters, and banking and finance.

Current Practice

Malarmathy is regularly involved in conducting title due diligence and preparing a wide range of notarially executed documents. She advises clients on matters relating to mortgages, corporate and other mortgage bonds, leases and licences of commercial properties, foreign exchange regulations, and the legal and regulatory considerations relevant to doing business in Sri Lanka.

Her practice also extends to employment law. She assists clients with the preparation and review of employment contracts and provides advice on applicable labour laws, employment practices, and related compliance matters in Sri Lanka.

Prior to joining Varners, Malarmathy served as a Legal Officer at a corporate law firm and subsequently spent ten years as a Senior Legal Officer at a well-established commercial bank in Sri Lanka. This experience has provided her with a strong understanding of both legal and commercial considerations in banking, finance, property, and corporate transactions.
