Overview

Krishanth Rajasooriyar is a Partner in our Corporate & Commercial, Banking & Finance, and Labour & Employment practices. He is an Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka, joined our firm in 2015.

With over 15 years of dedicated experience as an IT professional, Krishanth seamlessly transitioned from a senior management position in the tech industry to his current role in law. This unique journey underscores his exceptional skill set, blending in-depth technical expertise with a wealth of management experience. Krishanth's background not only encompasses a profound understanding of intricate IT systems but also a strategic and leadership-oriented approach cultivated during his tenure in senior management. This dual proficiency positions him as a valuable asset in the legal realm, where his nuanced understanding of both technology and management dynamics proves instrumental in navigating the complexities of present day commercial transactions.

Current Practice

As part of the Corporate & Commercial practice, he handles all aspects of corporate commercial law, including mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures, cross-border commercial transactions, foreign investments, power and energy projects, franchises, labour and employment, taxation, corporate dispute resolution, and general business operations in Sri Lanka. Notably, he has played a key role in facilitating several high-value foreign direct investments in Sri Lanka, particularly in the last six years.

Krishanth advises clients on a range of corporate transactional matters, encompassing intricate cross-border M&A, legal due diligences, compliance with security regulations, public offerings of equity and debt securities, restructuring, liquidation/winding up, resolution of shareholder disputes, and addressing conflicts among directors. He actively participates in providing counsel for renewable energy-based power projects, encompassing tasks such as securing regulatory approvals, scrutinizing power purchase agreements, and structuring the overall framework for power projects. Further, his expertise extends to advising corporate employers on labour and employment laws, recruitment, employment structuring, compensation, voluntary retirement schemes, and termination matters.

Clients appreciate his knack and talent for drafting and advising on tailor-made agreements/documents for joint ventures, e-commerce transactions, software development and maintenance, EPCC (engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning), export sales, purchase and supply agreements with overseas suppliers, turnkey contracts for factories and utilities, as well as construction and management contracts.

Krishanth holds a Bachelor of Information Technology (Second Class Honours) from the School of Computing (UCSC) of the University of Colombo, further enhancing his interdisciplinary proficiency in technology and law.
