Achala Jayawardena is a Partner in the Firm’s Intellectual Property practice and supervises the work of its patent division. An Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka, she joined the Firm in 2010 and has since developed substantial experience across a broad spectrum of intellectual property matters.

Current Practice

Achala is regularly involved in intellectual property litigation and advises clients on contentious and non-contentious issues relating to the protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights. Her practice encompasses trademarks, patents and industrial designs, and she assists clients with both strategic and procedural aspects of managing and protecting their intellectual property portfolios.

She has extensive experience advising a diverse client base that includes multinational corporations, pharmaceutical companies, automobile companies, international agents, and other local and international businesses. Her work involves providing practical and commercially focused advice tailored to the particular requirements of each client and industry.

In addition to her litigation work, Achala plays an active role in overseeing patent-related matters handled by the Firm, including coordinating the work of the patent division and supporting clients in relation to the registration, maintenance and protection of patent rights.

With her longstanding experience in intellectual property law, Achala continues to advise clients on complex IP matters, combining legal knowledge with an understanding of commercial priorities and the practical considerations involved in safeguarding valuable intellectual property assets across a wide range of commercial sectors.
